To sign up for the Central Web Hosting, please email us at cco-web-admin@lists.umn.edu.

What we need from you:

  • Basic or Premium
  • If Premium, please specify http (Non-SSL), https (SSL), or both.¹
  • EFS number for billing²
  • College and Department
  • web site name (VHOST)
  • web site group name (4-8 characters)
  • x.500 usernames for each webmaster

¹ If the initial request is for http (Non-SSL) only and at some later time https (SSL) is required, your site may need a transitional downtime in order to enable SSL.

² While Basic is free, we do require a EFS number to set up the accounts. A $0 charge may appear on your EFS billing.

When your site is ready, you will need to update your DNS for your web site name to point to the web hosting service. Please use the DNS name webhost.oit.umn.edu as the target for your web site name. If you are unable to do this, please ask. CCO can provide assistance in transferring your DNS.

Your web service may take up to 5 days to set up completely, depending on your configuration needs.
